Dr Emma-Leigh Synott

Plenary 1:Sustainability


Dr Emma-Leigh Synott is a Consultant in Rehab Medicine at the State Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Unit at FSH. She also has a background in veterinary medicine and has been active in wildlife rehabilitation and habitat conservation.

Dr. Synott takes an active role in promoting sustainability and environment conservation and their links to health. She currently serves as the WA Chair of the DEA (Doctors for the Environment Australia) and sits on the DEA National Campaigns Committee. Additionally on a local level she also serves on the WA Climate and Health Community of Practice network, helping to explore opportunities to counteract the negative impacts of climate change on the health sector.

Dr Lisa Cuddeford

Plenary 2: Difficult Conversations

Dr Lisa Cuddeford is a Paediatric Palliative Care specialist at PCH and leads the WA Paediatric Palliative Care Service. She has a wealth of experience having worked in Paediatric Palliative Care for over 20 years in both the UK and Australia. She has been instrumental in the plans towards developing WA's first Children's Hospice.

Dr Paula Johnson

BPT Series: Tips from the National Examiners

Associate Professor Paula Johnson is a consultant general and respiratory physician at FSH. She has ample experience in teaching and examining medical students and physician trainees including work as a National Examiner for the RACP BPT exams. Dr. Johnson has co-authored a book called ‘Making Sense of Acute Medicine’ a guide that has a focus on clinical history taking and examination skills and their application to a range of acute presentations.




Dr Simon Williams

Dr Simon Williams is a Paediatric Neurologist from PCH with a keen interest in clinical assessment skills in Medicine. His dedication to upholding a high clinical standard is exemplified by his work as a National Examiner in the RACP BPT exams.

Dr Amali Samarasinghe

Dr Amali Samarasinghe is an Advanced Trainee in Renal Medicine who previously worked as the Medical Education Registrar at SCGH in 2020.

Andrea Burns

Andrea Burns is an award-winning journalist with more than twenty-five years’ experience. She has worked in television commercial news and current affairs as a reporter and presenter for both the Seven and Ten networks. Andrea runs a successful boutique media consultancy, specialising in Media and Presentation training, as well as all aspects of effective communication.

Dr Sarah Cherian

Dr Sarah Cherian is a consultant General Paediatrician from PCH who is currently the Clinical Lead of the Refugee Health Service. In the past she has also served many dedicated years as the Director of Clinical Training in the Department of Postgraduate Medical Education. She is heavily involved in research and currently working towards completion of a PhD.


Dr Matthew Clifford

Dr Matthew Clifford is a radiology fellow currently working at SCGH who will be commencing a fellowship in Interventional Radiology next year. Matthew’s wife, Dr. Jesse Clifford, is a consultant Obstetrician/Gynaecologist, working a KEMH, SJOGH Midland and in private practice. Together whilst successfully completing highly challenging medical training programs they have had 4 children.
