An Introduction to the Coach Approach to Professional Development

Date: Saturday, 14 May 2022
Time: 9am - 12.25pm
Venue: Melbourne Exhibition and
Convention Centre
Capacity: 30
Description:
Pre-pandemic, the medical profession was already facing increasing rates of dissatisfaction and burnout.  As medical professionals attempt to emerge from COVID-19, we are experiencing additional elements of isolation, loss of control and persistent uncertainty. Now it is more important than ever to promote professional development, connection and self-determination.  Helping physicians help themselves using a “Coach Approach” is one method that can enhance our emotional awareness and drive change in a positive direction.  The “Coach Approach” is grounded in relationship-centered communication and positive psychology. The “Coach Approach” fundamentals provide tools to empower individuals to define their own goals and action plans.

During this workshop, participants will be introduced to the power of the ‘Coach Approach’ to promoting professional development.  We will begin by defining the “Coach Approach” and describe the benefits of coaching fundamentals to cultivate development and wellbeing.  We will guide participants through two fundamental coaching concepts - asset-based thinking and empowering language.  Participants will learn, and then practice these skills in facilitated, small group discussions.
