AFOEM Annual Training Meeting

Saturday, 14 May to Monday, 16 May 2021
Melbourne, Victoria

The Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (AFOEM) is a Faculty of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP). The Faculty provides membership and undertakes the professional training to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours that a specialist occupational and environmental physician must have in order to practise effectively. One way we do this is through the Annual Training Meeting (ATM).

The three-day ATM provides trainees with invaluable experience and knowledge, and the chance to learn, share, and network together. It is an integral part of the AFOEM training program with breakout sessions at this year’s ATM tailored to all stages of training. In addition, a variety of worksite visits are offered as practical learning opportunities.

The specialty of occupational and environmental medicine focuses on the inter-relationships between workers, workplaces, and work practices. Worksite visits provide trainees the opportunity to hone their skills in Return to Work and Risk Assessment, as required by AFOEM learning objectives:

  • Assess the task demands and environment of the work of an employee
  • Describe the general principles of workplace assessment
  • Apply a screening test to a work group
  • Assess the degree of contamination and the health risks of a contaminated site.
